Most dishwasher noises are common, like the sound of water coming through the water inlet fill valve, the buzz of the pump motor or the splash of water. But if your dishwasher is making odd sounds or is strangely loud, it’s time to look deeper.
A grinding sound could be brought by a popcorn kernel wedged in the chopper blade space of the dishwasher; a thumping sound may be the drain line shaking against the cabinet.
The wash pump, wash pump motor or drain pump all make sound when they’re defective.
You might hear a loud buzzing sound from the wash pump or drain pump. The wash pump motor sometimes screeches when its bearings are not good anymore.
The dishwasher also can make weird sounds if it’s not strapped to the floor or cabinet.
